According to the statistics around one in three marriages ends in divorce. Much to my surprise and sorrow my own marriage was one of them. At the time it was an enormous shock - it wasn't the path that I wanted or had chosen, but it was the path I was given. Fortunately my two daughters, aged 12 and 14, decided that they wanted to live with me and, together, we rebuilt our lives. In the beginning I was sad, angry, frustrated and scared that I would not be able to cope with my new life. But I was wrong. Gradually I learned how to deal with the trauma and loneliness of separation, manage a house, balance work and home life, find new love - and, most importantly, become a better father. This book tells my story. It is not intended to be a 'how to' guide. I wrote it to provide encouragement, advice and ideas to help men firstly survive and then excel as single fathers, and also to share a laugh over some of my experiences. I wrote it because when my own marriage failed, I couldn't find a book to help me. I hope this book shows all soon to be, newly, or long term single fathers that there is life after divorce - and that it can be a good one
Single Father Better Dad How I Survived Divorce and Thrived Mr Mark Tucker 9780987358158 Books
I enjoyed this book. It's good to get a single Dad perspective on things. I found some of the information quite 'squeamishly' personal (wondering about how to 'have it off' with another lady etc) but that's just my being an old conservative. The author is candid about his situation and about how you just have to get on with life.Don't quite know why some critics say we need to know what the ex wife's perspective is. This book is clearly written solely from the author's point of view and he isn't attempting to be 'balanced'. If the ex wife has a perspective then she'll write a book and the ledger will be squared. And in terms of that the author outlines where he contributed to the downfall of the marriage in the first place. It's clearly not all the ex wife's fault according to this book. He's still annoyed at the way the dissolution happened - and I guess I would be too if it happened to me that way.
That said, this book has helped me appreciate my wife better and challenged me not to take her for granted. A good read for husbands out there in my opinion.

Single Father Better Dad How I Survived Divorce and Thrived Mr Mark Tucker 9780987358158 Books Reviews
Very funny. Well written. A great read.
Touching, funny, from the heart.....very lucky daughters and a very lucky woman who came into his life
Fantastic book , it was like re living the last 2 years of my life in the 8 hours that I read Marks book
A lighthearted look at a serious topic. I found it very entertaining, and somewhat insightful as well. The humor is excellent...
Absolutely loved reading this book!
It was written so humourously, (even for a woman to read) whilst at the same time, being about a painful and sensitive experience. I hope there is a sequel!
The author writes really well, and has a great sense of humour. Even though the book is targeted at single men, as a married woman I still loved it. I informed my husband he would read it too, since there are many lessons there I hope he learns without having to go through a divorce. To be honest though, I did not have to tell my husband to read it he was very curious to know why I was laughing so much while reading the book. He is reading the book and laughing occasionally while I write this review.
I think Mark has some very interesting insights and advice on family, love, parenting...etc. For example the decision he makes to be married than live-in the second time as a value he wanted to set for his children is priceless. He also expresses his feelings very well through the trauma and heart break. Somewhere by the two thirds of the book I wasn't sure if running lives using management consulting practices is the right advice but certainly there were some good problem solving thinking in there. Great read. Make a judgement on how much of this is a "getting back on the perpetrator" spin.
